Sreemangal is an Upazila of Moulvibazar district in Sylhet division. The distance of Sreemangal from capital Dhaka is almost 200 km. Sreemangal is familiar as the ‘Capital’ of Tea as the region is the largest region covered under tea gardens. It is situated on ‘Hail Haor’ area which is one of the most important wetlands in the Sylhet Basin for the resident and migratory waterfowls.
Sreemangal is an area that is covered with small hills, tea gardens, rubber gardens and green forests. Sreemangal is the highest rainfall area in the country. The Lawachhara Rain Forest is located in Kamalganj, the adjacent upazila of Sreemangal. In this forest one finds several rare species of plants. With green natural view, there exist tea gardens, tea processing center, Bangladesh Tea Research Center.
Sreemangal is an area where different anthropological groups (Khasia, Monipuri, Garo, Tripura etc.) live together. They live with their own cultures with Bangali people. Sreemangal is also familiar for lemon, watermelon and orange production.
