Kamalganj is an Upazila of Moulvibazar district in Sylhet division. It is at adjacent of so called the ‘Capital’ of Tea Sreemangal Upazila. The Lawachhara Rain Forest is one of the natural attractions of Kamalganj. In this forest one finds several rare species of plants. This is an area where different anthropological groups (Khasia, Monipuri, Garo, Tripura etc.) live together. They live with their own cultures with Bangali people.
The Adampur Union of Kamalganj is a one of the familiar places where the Manipuri community upholds their cultural values in their day to day lives. In the community the Manipuri Museum exists with folk culture and tradition of Manipuri. One will also find the Manipuri Sangskritik Parishad (Manipuri Cultural Complex) which is a cultural center of Manipuri community. The cultural center upholds the community’s traditional practices whole the year with significant festivals.
Among the Manipuri festivals ‘Raas Leela’ – a celebration of the divine love of Radha and Krishna – is the most significant and colorful festival. The community celebrates the festival full day to full night on the ‘Purnima Tithi’ (Full Moon) in November every year. The festival includes ‘Rakhal Nritya’ (Dance of Sri Krishna and the cowherds), ‘Natpala’ and ‘Raas Leela’ (Dance of Sri Krishna, Radha and the milk maid). ‘Raas Mela’ (Fair) is also a part of the festival.
