Overview

Bangladeshi Nationals need to carry the photocopy of NIDs for this package. The travel areas of this package are restricted for foreigners.

Bandarban is a green hilly region of Bangladesh situated to the South-East corner of the country. It is one of the three hill districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) area which full of hills and forest areas. It is the least populous district of Bangladesh with an area of 4,479 km2. Bandarban is the district to which the border of both India and Myanmar exist. It is a place of various tribal inhabitants.

One of the great attractions of Bandarban is the riding through the Sangu River. The Sangu is a river of Bangladesh and Myanmar. The source of the river is in the North Arakan Hills of Myanmar and the river enters in Bangladesh near Remakri, a remote Union of Thanchi Upazila. The length of the river is 270 km; 173 km are located within Bangladesh.

The travel covers all four Union (Balipara, Thanchi Sadar, Tindu & Remakri) areas of Thanchi Upazila. One can enjoy the excellent scenic view of the Sangu River through sailing to the upstream of the river up to Remakri. On the way, there is Boro Pathor area where the ‘Raja Pathor’ (King Stone) exists as the ethnic peoples’ spiritual belief. The local people believe that if the Raja Pathor goes under water by overflow in the Sangu due to rain then the Thanchi will be gone under water as well. Interestingly the water color of the Sangu is changeable due to seasons. In rainy season the water color turns into muddy and unclear while during winter and spring the water becomes peacefully greenish transparent.

Nafa-khum is one of the significant waterfalls of that region which is a two and half an hour walking distance from Remakri Bazar.

Bumpy Rocks, Water flows, and The Mind Simply Blows!

Since the journey started at night with (almost) my whole maternal family, I was already so full eating almost three plates of biriyani at home. I almost immediately slept beside my sister after getting on the bus as the seats felt unbelievably comfy. The instant egg omlet and parata warmed us from inside in a chilly morning at a restaurant just 30 minutes away from Bandarban bus station. Then we started for Thanchi and reached there in the noon experiencing a pretty bumpy "Chander-Gaari" ride. Having our lunch and finishing paper-works at Thanchi Police Atation, we started for Remakri with a boat, and Voilà! It was bumpier than the last ride. But you know what? The scenic view of the rocks and flowing water throughout the valleys fed my eyes the magnificent beauty of the mother nature. Even the bumpy transportation felt like a sweet touch of soothing sights of the hills and rocky water. We stayed at Remakri at night after reaching there around 4:30 in the afternoon. The next day, in the early morning, our trekking started and we reached the mighty Nafakhum around 12 o'clock at noon. My eyes gazed to those of the nature's. It all felt so dreamy looking at the gigantic waterfall for the first time. We got back at Remakri and stayed that night there having a grand local feast that includes a chicken curry with a yummy spicy local taste. The next morning we continue our getting back and got back to Thanchi, then Bandarban at the hotel. Took our time to freshen ourselves up and had our dinner afterwards. The ride back to Dhaka was pretty comfy as well. The whole service and guide's overall performance was surprisingly the best I have experienced in a very long time. To conclude, it was one of the most memorable water-fall treks in my life so far!
